On Saturday, August 27th Philip Busch and over 150 of his employees and their families volunteered at the Treasure Coast Food Bank. The volunteers spent the day packing backpacks for local children and boxes for the homeless in our community.
Due to restrictions, the family members under 8 years of age, worked in a separate area coloring bags to pack items in to give to children who may not have a meal to eat during the weekends. “We had a tremendous turnout,” stated Philip Busch, President of Southern Eagle Distributing. “I am so proud of our employees and their families who are always willing to give back to our community and support great organizations like the Food Bank.”
The Treasure Coast Food Bank was founded in 1989. It is the largest hunger-relief organization and the only Food Bank in our four-county area (Indian River, Martin, St. Lucie, and Okeechobee County). Their mission is to alleviate hunger by obtaining and distributing food and other essentials throughout the Treasure Coast.
The Food Bank provides 400 active pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior housing, and low-income day-care centers with large quantities of food on a daily basis. They also operate various mobile food pantries throughout our service area and assist pantries that provide backpacks to hundreds of children on the weekend. The backpacks are disbursed to qualifying children on Friday afternoon by various schools.
