Busch Family Foundation offers challenge for BGC

Philip Busch, president of Southern Eagle Distributing and the Peter W. Busch Family Foundation, hosted a reception of local business leaders on behalf of the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County. Judges for the BGC’s Youth of the Year celebration were introduced and given their packets for the Feb. 24 event.

This year’s Youth of the Year judges include: Shaniek Maynard, Roundtable of St. Lucie County; Travis Leonard, A&G Concrete Pools; Greg Lowe, Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute; Dr. Michelle Sarasola, Sarasola Dental; Brandon Smith, Southern Eagle Distributing; Karla Tovar, Aztec Graphix; Tom Wilkinson, Seacoast Bank and Amber Woods, Treasure Coast Lexus and Toyota.

Philip Busch stated, “Southern Eagle Distributing is committed to this community and the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County. In my opinion, it is the best charity to donate to for the best future of our community. Southern Eagle Distributing challenges anyone in the community to match my contribution or give what they can to the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County.”

He presented a check for $10,000 to the club. Travis Leonard, a partner at A & G Concrete Pools and a Youth of the Year judge, accepted the challenge and committed $5,000 to the club.

“I accepted the challenge from Philip because you have to give back to the community that gives to you,” he stated.

“This is an outstanding gesture of generosity and support from two of the leaders in our community,” said Will Armstead, BGC executive director. “We are blessed to have Philip and Travis make these commitments to our Club Members.”

As Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier youth recognition program, the Youth of the Year title recognizes outstanding contributions to a club member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club, as well as personal challenges and obstacles overcome. Locally our Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County winner will receive a two-year scholarship to Indian River State College sponsored by the IRSC Foundation.
